The convenience of a "bed-in-a-box" is a marvel of modern engineering, but if you've never unboxed one before, you might be wondering what to expect. Don't worry, the process is incredibly simple, straightforward, and even a little bit magical.

This in-depth guide will walk you through every step, ensuring a smooth and successful setup from the moment you bring the box inside to your first blissful night's sleep.

Part 1: The Arrival & Preparation

Your Polar RV Mattress will arrive compressed, rolled, and sealed in a surprisingly compact, easy-to-manage box. Before you start, here are a few pro-tips to make the process seamless:

• Find a Helper: While manageable for one person, the box has some weight to it. We recommend grabbing a partner, friend, or family member to help you move it. Teamwork makes the dream work!

• Move the Box to the Bedroom FIRST: This is the most important tip we can give you. It is much easier to move the mattress while it's still contained in its box. Carry the box directly into your RV's bedroom and place it near the bed frame or platform where it will live. Once it starts expanding, it will be more difficult to move.

Part 2: The Unboxing - A Step-by-Step Guide

With the box in position, you're ready for the main event.

Step 1: Position the Box on Your Bed Frame Lay the box flat on your existing bed platform or foundation. Orient it so that when you slide the mattress out, it will be easy to unroll across the length of the bed.

Step 2: Open the Outer Box Carefully cut the tape and open the top flaps of the cardboard box. Inside, you will see your mattress, tightly rolled and vacuum-sealed in a protective layer of heavy-duty plastic.

Step 3: Slide Out the Rolled Mattress Gently slide the plastic-wrapped mattress roll out of the box and onto your bed frame. You’ll notice a small welcome packet that includes your setup instructions and a specially designed safety cutting tool—keep this handy for the next step!

Step 4: Carefully Unroll Position the mattress roll at one end of your bed frame (either the head or the foot). Carefully snip the outer layer of plastic holding it in a roll (be careful not to cut the inner vacuum-sealed bag just yet). Now, simply unroll the compressed mattress across the foundation until it lies flat. You may need to flip it over to ensure the Polar Mattress cover is facing up.

Part 3: The Release - Using the Safety Cutting Tool

This is where the magic happens! The mattress is now lying flat but is still compressed inside its final layer of vacuum-sealed plastic.

CRITICAL STEP: Use the Included Cutting Tool!

We cannot stress this enough: Please do not use a knife, scissors, or a box cutter. These sharp objects can easily slice through the plastic and damage the beautiful, cool-to-the-touch fabric of your new mattress.

The included safety cutter is designed with a shielded blade to cut only the plastic wrap, protecting your mattress from accidental nicks and tears.

1. Locate the edge of the plastic wrap.

2. Carefully insert the safety cutter’s blade into the plastic.

3. Begin to glide the tool along the length of the mattress.

4. As you cut, you will hear a satisfying whoosh of air as the mattress is exposed to the atmosphere for the first time. The mattress will instantly begin to decompress and expand.

5. Finish cutting around the mattress and remove the plastic wrapping entirely.

Part 4: Let It Breathe - The Expansion Process

Your mattress will expand rapidly within the first few minutes, which is exciting to watch! It will look and feel like a real mattress almost immediately.

• Expansion Time: Your Polar RV Mattress will expand to about 90% of its full size and firmness within 3 to 5 hours and is safe to sleep on the very first night.

• Allow 24-48 Hours for Full Form: For the foam to fully decompress, settle, and reach its final feel and firmness, we recommend allowing a full 24 to 48 hours.

• A Note on "New Mattress Scent": Like a new car, your new mattress may have a slight scent upon opening. This is completely normal and harmless. It's the result of freshly manufactured foams being vacuum-sealed. The scent will dissipate quickly. To speed it up, you can open a window or vent in your RV to encourage air circulation.

Part 5: Final Touches and Your First Night

Once your mattress has fully expanded, you can make the bed with your favourite sheets, blankets, and pillows. Your sleep sanctuary is now complete.
